Authentically successful: My journey to self-acceptance and professional triumph with a migration background

My (and like many) migration background is the key to my values and qualities. I once kept my professional and private life strictly separate. I tried to create a professional character from a manual. Over the years, I realized that the people around me did not know me in all my depth and, above all, did not understand my beliefs.But in the spring of 2023 I made the decision to unite both worlds and stand up for my word and beliefs, even if it means no longer pleasing everyone. A courageous decision that brought amazing changes not only professionally but also personally. The decision to be authentic became a turning point. Doors that previously seemed closed suddenly opened. I experienced how the interaction of my professional and private facets wrote a fascinating story.

What was impressive was that I was offered a professional opportunity despite my lack of many years of experience in personnel and organizational development and HR strategy. Others had more seniority and more extensive experience, but my authenticity, calling, humanity and determination were convincing. As a 30-year-old woman with a migration background, without a bachelor's/master's degree and without extensive experience, someone believed in me and really saw and understood me.

Why am I writing about this topic? My journey shows that knowing myself deeply first and integrating my entire identity into my professional life has led to a powerful change in my life. It was not just a professional opportunity, but a journey towards acceptance of myself with my strengths, weaknesses and limitations, which shaped my entire personality.
